Making construction cost estimates clear for everyone with AI
Building.tech is an AI-powered platform that analyses construction plans for cost estimation, line-item budgets and financial forecasting. I designed the product end to end over twelve months.

What I did
- Designed the product end to end over twelve months
- Brought budgeting, proposals and cost estimation into one product
- Designed the AI chat and plan viewer so every result traces back to the drawing
The challenge
Contractors and project managers budget in spreadsheets, which leads to inconsistent data and inaccurate forecasts. AI could analyse plans and estimate costs, but only if professionals could understand and trust what it told them.
Approach and design decisions
One product vision
I brought budget planning, proposal generation and cost estimation into one product instead of three separate tools.
Upload, select, analyse
A three-step start, upload a PDF, choose the pages and run the analysis, gets people from a plan to first results quickly.

AI you can check
The assistant lists what it found with dimensions and confidence, and the plan viewer highlights the same objects, so every number traces back to the drawing.

On every screen, in both themes
The same workspace, chat next to the plan, adapts to desktop, tablet and phone, in a light and a dark theme.

Dashboards over spreadsheets
Complex financial output became simple dashboards and decision-support flows that professionals can act on.
Success criteria before launch
We agreed what success means up front: shorter proposal preparation, more accurate estimates, less reliance on Excel and more repeat use across projects.
The outcome
The core flows, from plan upload to an AI-assisted budget, were designed and handed over.
